NEW 7 SECONDS ALBUM FOR RISE RECORDS NEARS COMPLETION

Jan. 30, 2014

After a week and a half of additional sessions we have the majority of the new 7 Seconds record in place. Kevin's vocals were done over a couple of days and Bobby has been back in sweetening the tracks with additional rhythm and lead parts.

We are taking Hell's Half Acre on the road this weekend to Moon Studios in Sacramento where we are planning to get everyone together to record backing vocals for the album.

As soon as that's complete we head home and start piecing together the mixes. The expected completion date on mixing is Feb 15 and once it's compete Hell's Half Acre mastering engineer Michael Hateley will be taking over and putting the final touches on the band's new release for Rise Records.

TRACKING WELL UNDER WAY ON NEW 7 SECONDS L.P.

Nov 14, 2013

Troy's drums are in the can and Bobby has been laying down rhythm guitar for the last 4 or 5 days. The album is filled with loads of the band's trademark fast and punishing sound but there are a few mid tempo numbers that will break things up a bit.

The energy of the tracks is what we are noticing first and foremost so that's a good thing. Bass tracking is coming up in a couple of weeks and then it's on to vocals. You can follow the progress at the Hell's Half Acre Facebook page where we have been posting photos, input lists, food and the odd video.

March 1, 2013

Calgary based Jenny just completed mixing their new full length album with Steve at Hell's Half Acre.

Blending acoustic driven folk with straight up punk rock Jenny's new album "Love and Politics" will be released on Vancouver B.C. based indie label Sudden Death, which is owned and operated by D.O.A. frontman Joe Keithley.

Mastering was performed in-house by our guru Michael Hateley. The album's title aptly describes the record's message and we know you'll want to check out this great band at their site here

STEVE WRAPS NEW SUSAN SURFTONE FULL LENGTH IN PORTLAND

Feb. 15 2013

"Back for more" might be the catchphrase as Steve just wrapped a new full length for Portland's surf and garage rock legend Susan Surftone. The duo completed the critically acclaimed "Shore" a year and a half ago, and Susan was so pleased with the results that she hired to Steve to produce a second L.P. entitled "Too Far".

With 60's garage-rock at the core of her sound Surftone rips it up on these instrumental tracks. Steve threw down on drums for the entire record adding an edgy but tasteful approach that compliments the songs tightly. Look for reviews of this album when it hits this spring. If they are anything like the last record people will be saying very good things!

HELL'S HALF ACRE IN FINAL PHASE OF SET UP

Jan. 28 2013

With new cool toys arriving it's time for a little update on where it's all being installed. Finish work is underway and wiring and testing of the new Soundcraft 6000 has been completed. The Hell's Half Acre control room will be completed shortly and it feels comfortable and spacious.

Snakes and tie lines have been pulled to the tracking room and a general maintenance work is underway to give everything a little spit and polish. We'll be cranking out the tunes just as soon as some of the finer details are addressed but this is going to be a great place to work. Stay tuned for more!

NEW GEAR ARRIVING AT HELL'S HALF ACRE

Jan. 14 2013

A bunch of very cool items have recently arrived to enhance the new room. Our new Soundcraft 6000 console is being dialed in, and we've added some cool outboard to keep our mixing "out of the box" philosophy a reality.

New arrivals include a gorgeous Lexicon PCM-70 effects processor, as well as a Roland SDE-3000 delay line, and a BBE 422A which is just killer on toms.

We have also taken delivery of a pristine matched stereo pair of A.K.G. 451B condenser mics that are going to be an great addition for tracking drums.

Check out the equipment page for a complete list of gear. And be sure to see our list of board games. We are always adding them to keep you entertained, as Hell's Half Acre is a satellite and cable T.V. free zone!

NEW SOUNDCRAFT 6000 MIXING CONSOLE ARRIVING

Dec. 12, 2012

Just wanted to let you know that a gem of a console has been purchased for installation in Steve's new and soon to be announced recording facility launching early next year.

The English built desk is capable of accepting 40 inputs in mix mode. Mic pre's sound open but very punchy and the E.Q. has that famously "British" airiness and drive. This is a great console to mix rock music on. Combining this great board with Pro Tools HD will give the headroom and flexibility at mixdown that working "inside the box" simply can't touch. This is a major addition!

More on Steve's new studio location as soon as the paperwork is signed!

STEVE SELECTED TO F.A.C.T.O.R. JURY

The agency providers financial assistance through various grant programs that help bring new artists to the forefront and encourage development of songwriting and recording as well as promotion and publicity. Steve will be judging entries for the "Roots" catagory.

His election to the jury represents a huge professional honor.
